Day 1: Kampala to Lake Mburo National Park
Get picked up by your guide from your hotel in Kampala city and depart at 05:30am early in the morning. From Kampala to Lake Mburo is 253 km about 4-hour drive. The goal of getting up early is to beat traffic and reach the park by 08:30 am for the morning game drive. Lasting for 3-4 hours, the game drive safari in Lake Mburo offers an opportunity to spot buffaloes, common plains zebras, Nubian giraffes and a variety of antelope species which include Elands, topis, Impalas, klipspringers, Uganda kobs, and waterbucks.
The park has no lions and elephants, however. Leopards are present and are most active at night and can be spotted, especially in the early morning time or during a night game drive. At midday you will check in to the lodge to freshen up and have lunch. Later in the afternoon, you go on Lake Mburo boat cruise safari. The wildlife species you might spot include Nile crocodiles, hippos, Sitatunga, solitary male buffaloes, and water birds.
In addition to the wild animals, Lake Mburo is home to 310 species of birds including the shoebill stork. Keen birders can aim for birding trails in the acacia woodlands at Rwonyo park visitor center, Rubanga forest, and the swamps along the shores of Lake Mburo. Among the unique species include the papyrus gonolek, African fin foot, and blue-headed coucal.
After the boat cruise, you will return for dinner and overnight at the lodge. The lodges inside Lake Mburo offer an opportunity to go on guided night game drive.
Day 2: Walking safari and transfer back to Kampala
The guided walk in Lake Mburo National Park begins at 7:00am after breakfast and ends at 9:00am. It is a unique Uganda safari activity that allows you to absorb the natural environment. Particularly in Lake Mburo, you get up close with giraffes, and it’s quite common to see them mingled with zebras, impalas, topi, and elands. On returning from the walk, you will have breakfast and transfer back to Kampala city. Along the way, make a stopover at the equator monument for photo shoots. Arrive in Kampala in the afternoon and be transferred to the airport for departure flight or to your preferred place of choice. End of tour.
