At 260 sq.km, Lake Mburo National Park is the smallest savanna protected area but one of the most impressive with open plains, acacia, tropical forests, swamps and over 13 lakes of which Lake Mburo is the largest of all.
With 68 mammal species including Nubian giraffes, Burchell’s zebra and over 8 antelopes such as impalas, elands, topi, klipspringer, waterbucks, bushbucks, oribi, sitatunga, and Uganda kobs. Lake Mburo also has 310 species of birds among the water bird species like shoebill. Other aquatic creatures include hippos and Nile crocodiles.

Detailed Lake Mburo Safari itinerary
Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Lake Mburo National Park
Set out from Kampala or Entebbe in the morning and transfer to Lake Mburo National Park via the Masaka-Mbarara highway, one of the busiest drives. Make stops at the Equator monument for African coffee and take photo shoots or the water experiment to learn about the Coriolis Effect and earth rotation. Continue to the lodge inside the park, savor on Ugandan delicious fruit juice and cuisine for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Game drive and boat cruise on Lake Mburo
Rise early and get aboard in a 4×4 vehicle with rooftop for the morning game drive safari in Lake Mburo National Park—home to over 68 mammal species and over 310 bird species. Spot Nubian giraffes, plains zebras, and a selection of antelope species such as impala, Uganda kob, bushbucks, topi, eland, klipspringer, waterbucks if lucky, you might see an elusive leopard as well as a variety of acacia dwelling birds that live in the breathtaking Whispers of the Wild.
Return to our lodge at noon and take some time to relax and enjoy delicious Ugandan lunch and cold beverages or beer. In the afternoon, drive to Lake Mburo and take a boat cruise. Search for water bird species such as shoebill, African fish eagle, African fin foot as well as hippos, sitatunga, and Nile crocodiles. After 3 hours on water, it’s time to return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Walking safari and transfer back to Kampala
Set out on a guided walking safari starting at 7:00am and ending at 9:00am with full breakfast at the lodge. Check out and transfer back to Kampala city. End of Lake Mburo Safari.
